Daticon’s processes, methodologies and standard practices for handling client data are compliant with the Safe Harbor framework
NORWICH, CT – April 1, 2008
Daticon LLC, a leading provider of electronic discovery and litigation support services for nearly 15 years, today announced its certification to the Safe Harbor framework developed by the US Department of Commerce and the European Commission governing the handling of European Union personal data.
The European Commission issued the Directive on Data Protection in 1998, prohibiting the transfer of personal data to non-European Union nations that did not meet the European “adequacy” standard for privacy protection. Subsequently the U.S. Department of Commerce, in conjunction with the European Union, established the Safe Harbor framework in 2000 to bridge the gap between the data privacy approaches of the United States and the European Union.
Safe Harbor certification provides assurance to EU organizations and agencies that Daticon not only understands, but has also taken the steps required for implementing personal data privacy protections. Being certified, in most instances, permits Daticon to transfer data between the EU and the US without the need for prior approval. For those instances where prior approval is still warranted, the Safe Harbor certification provides assurances that such approvals will be administered in a timely fashion.
"As corporations expand globally, the need for electronic discovery providers to offer the level of support necessary to handle matters with international requirements is also growing. With Safe Harbor certification and also adding foreign language capabilities to its product offerings, Daticon is dedicated to providing its clients with the support they need to manage their more complex cases." said Mike Lehoux, Vice President of Marketing for Daticon. "Safe Harbor certification further emphasizes Daticon’s commitment to ensuring the highest level of security around the data supplied to us by our clients. Daticon has put in place the proper protocols and procedures to comply with both US and international law."
Organizations voluntarily certify to the Safe Harbor, and must re-certify annually. For more information on the Safe Harbor, please visit http://www.export.gov/safeharbor.
